My other project.

I had these 2 waiting room chairs given to me and I really hated them. But we had no other furniture or money to buy any other furniture. My husband SAYS he liked them and wanted to keep them anyway. I think he likes them just because they're free and we already had them. Well, I decided to try to refinish one and if I liked it I would do the other. They're matching - or atleast they were matching. I like the way the cushions came out but I'm not too sure I like the wood. Tell me what you think.

Its hard to see but the wood is a greenish color. I used a flat green paint and stained over it just like we did with the dining room set. I then sanded down some areas to the wood - like around the end of the arms. I used painter's cloth on the cushions but thought it too plain. I looked around the living room and spotted a crocheted throw a friend had given me years ago as a Christmas present. It wasn't very big and I never really knew what to do with it so I would just drape it over the sofa. I cut it and cut the fringe off the edges and covered the cushions with it. I thought it turned out pretty. As soon as I get a sewing maching I think I will do the other chair but I don't have any more of the crocheted throw. I think I will paint it the same way and make slip covers for the other chair out of the painter's cloth. I love painter's cloth! Its cheap and easy.

My first post!

This is my very first post! I am so excited :)
I am really getting into redecorating - thanks to my Pastor's wife. She is SO good at it. She can make anything look good - she just has an eye for it. She helped me refinish my dining table, chairs and china cabinet. It is still in the works. Here is how it started off looking:

Very 70s, very ugly! The guy I bought it from tried to tell me this set was only about 6 years old. Yeah right! Here are some more before pics:

I made this picture extra large so you could see what it really looks like. Its kind of a yellowish color with little brown speckles. Lucky for me its all solid wood! I got the whole set for $300! It included the china cabinet, table with 2 leaves that extends out to about 8 ft! Plus 4 chairs and 2 captain's chairs.

Now, I am still working on it but here are some after pics:

I have a lot of pictures of the chairs because I REALLY like how they turned out. The pictures do not do them justice. We painted everything with a flat white spray paint and then stained on top of that. I then either painted a coat with polyurethane or clear semi-gloss spray paint as a protective layer.  Then we recovered the chairs with painters cloth and also made slip covers out of the same fabric.
I am planning on covering the back of the china cabinet with beadboard and getting new hardware that matches better. Last but not least I will sand down and refinish the tops but I want them to be the same color as they are now. I really like the way it looks with the darker tops.

I wanted something simple with the slip covers yet just a touch of class. So, we added a pleat to each corner in the front.

I am painting the inside of the bottom - still needs another coat. But I am using just an offwhite semi-gloss.

So, whaddya think!?

I will post pics of my next project soon. I am REALLY interested to see what you think of it.
